LAPTOPS AND COMPUTER EQUIPMENT FOR FOSTER CHILDREN
We collaborate with the 12th Judicial Circuit GAL Program and the Sarasota Technology Users Group (STUG) to provide laptops and computer equipment for children in the foster care system. STUG sanitizes donated computer hard drives with a seven-step process, protecting donor's information. The system used employs software similar to that use by the US Department of Defense.
GAL, STUG and Temple Emanu-El accepts donations at the temple offices between 9 am and 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.
EYE GLASSES AND HEARING AIDS FOR THOSE IN NEED
Temple Emanu-El has donated more eye glasses to the local Lions Club than any other organization in Sarasota/Manatee over the past year! If you have used eye glasses or hearing aids and would like to donate them to a worthy cause, please drop them by the temple office Monday through Friday from 9 am until 3:30 pm.
CLOTHING DONATIONS FOR RESURRECTION HOUSE
Resurrection House serves as a day resource center to the homeless of Sarasota County, Florida. The popular notion of a homeless person as a vagrant, someone who chooses to live on the street, is not a current reality. Many homeless are identified as the "new poor." These individuals who have suffered crises in their lives find themselves on the street, helpless and unable to regain their place in society.
Temple Emanu-El fills a bin located in our foyer every week with toiletries and good used clothing. Our volunteers pick the items up from the temple and deliver them to Resurrection House to be put to good use by those in need.
CONTRIBUTE TO JEWISH FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES
Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) provides services to youth, families and veterans in need of counseling and/or assistance. There is a 2nd bin located in our temple foyer for non-perishable food donations. Again, temple volunteers pick up the food regularly and deliver it to JFCS for their families in need.
BACKPACK PROGRAM
This program is an exceptional collaboration between Temple Emanu-El, community businesses and generous temple members. Temple volunteers shop and pack bags of food for students in need at Lakeview Elementary.
MITZVAH DAY
One Sunday in May each year is set aside for hundreds and hundreds of our temple members to participate in community projects benefiting worthy causes. Learn more here.
