An invitation to share your Jewish Story

Dear Congregant,

Stories are powerful. They teach and enlighten us about others and ourselves.

Have you ever looked across the sanctuary and wondered about the people sitting a few rows ahead of you or right beside you?

You may know their names, or that they live in Lakewood Ranch, Englewood or Sarasota, or that they came from Ohio, Pennsylvania or New York.

But do you know anything about the experiences that helped form their identities as Jews? There are so many fascinating tales!

Thanks to Temple Emanu-El’s “Our Jewish Stories” project, which was lovingly launched by Bruce Black, you can read the stories that members of our congregation have shared about their Jewish experiences.

Bruce recently passed the baton to me, and with the wonderful assistance of fellow temple member Rosanne Ullman, I will now help you get your stories published within the Temple’s marvelous community.

Perhaps you have a story that you’d like to share about a specific moment or experience—or a family member or trip or book—that helped shape your identity and your path as a Jew?

If so, you’re invited to submit a maximum 500-word story by email to me HERE. Please use the subject line, "Our Jewish Stories.”

Rosanne and I will edit it and polish it up. We’ll talk to you if we have questions and make it the best it can be.

We very much look forward to adding your story to the growing collection.

Happy Writing!

Warm regards,

Barbara Field
